Sejak penampilan debut filmnya pada tahun 1987 di Barbie dan Rockers: Out of this World, Barbie telah menjadi aktris animasi komputer virtual yang membintangi beberapa film dan film pendek. Setelah absen empat belas tahun, Mattel ditugaskan untuk fitur film Barbie sebagai pahlawan putri atau peri beberapa bertema cerita untuk menemani waralaba boneka dan aksesoris terkait. Sebagian besar film berisi pesan moral, ditunjukkan oleh Barbie. Disini diungkas mengenai film Barbie dari Generasi Pertama hingga Generasi Kedua.
